What is Confirmation?
Confirmation completes the sacraments of initiation. Through the laying on of hands and anointing with chrism, the gifts of the Holy Spirit are strengthened in the candidate.
Preparation
Preparation is normally undertaken in school, at home and in the parish. Candidates are encouraged to pray, attend Mass and learn what it means to live as witnesses to Christ.
Sponsors
Each candidate chooses a sponsor who is a confirmed, practising Catholic and who can support them in the life of faith.
The celebration
Confirmation is usually celebrated by the Bishop or his delegate. Families, teachers and parishioners gather to support the candidates in prayer.
